Popular Animals and Pets in Australia
If you live in Australia then you probably know that kangaroos and koalas are not kept as pets. While Australia has some pretty unique animals, for the most part, pets tend to be of the usual variety.
Cats and dogs reign supreme as pets in Australia as they do in other countries such as England and America. Budgies, parrots, small aquarium fish, rabbits and guinea pigs are also popular animals to keep as pets. Occasionally snakes, lizards, turtles, tarantulas and rats are kept as pets.
Australia has a lot of farmland, and outback, so it is not unusual for some people to keep farm animals as pets. Horses, chickens, goats and pigs have all made their way into people's hearts as beloved pets.
There are of course those who love to keep the truly unusual and exotic as pets. Ferrets may not seem that exotic, but are actually illegal to keep as pets in Queensland and requires special licenses in the Northern Territory. Other unusual pets may be banned in certain areas or may require permits.
Some exotic pets Australians are keeping include Madagascar hissing cockroaches, piranhas, skunks, stick insects, and capybaras just to name a few.
Why not do a little research and then bring a new pet home today! A cat or dog is a nice addition to any family home.
