Tips for Keeping Utilities Clean and Inexpensive

Are you thinking about switching to greener utilities in your Australian home?  First, kudos for wanting to make the effort to improve the planet we live on.  Switching to renewable sources of energy can help make the future brighter for your children, and even their children.

You can start your switch to being more environmentally friendly by changing from your old fossil fuel powered electric company to a more eco-friendly company.  You can switch to a company that gets their power from landfill gas, wind power or hydro power.  You can also find companies who obtain their electricity from the sun.  There is enough solar energy produced every minute to power the whole earth for an entire year!  That is a powerful and completely renewable source of power that we should all be tapping into.

If you want to go completely off the grid, you can install solar energy panels on your home.  The Australian government is even offering incentives to help out with getting more people to install these systems.  Solar panels may have large start up fees but they will drastically reduce your bills for utilities in the long run.  Remember also simple things like unplugging electronics not in use and turning off lights when you leave a room can help to save a good amount of energy.

As far as water goes, there isn’t much you can do for a greener company, but you can do things to help eliminate waste.  When you are showering, turn the water off while you are washing your hair and body and turn it back on to rinse.  Don’t allow the water to run while you brush your teeth or wash your dishes in the sink.  Only run your dishwasher when it is full, and look for plants that are indigenous and that don’t need a lot of water to keep them green for the year.  Following these steps can help save water, and can also help slash those bills for your utilities.

Another way you can go green is by switching out your big truck for a more compact fuel efficient car, or even a car that runs on electricity.  Of course if you are way out in the bush, you may need to keep that truck.  However, you can still help others by making sure you do all your shopping in a single trip, so as to help reduce emissions released from your car.

Switching your utilities over to greener options will not only help save the planet, but can also help save you money.  Do your part to keep Australia beautiful!
