Finding Local Arts and Entertainment
What would mankind be if it wasn’t for arts and entertainment? Really bored to say the least! Entertainment spans a wide amount of customs, innovations, beliefs and traditions.
When you say “entertainment” the first thing that springs to mind is the movies, that magical theatre where stories come to life for the big screen. Movie entertainment has become big business and has also helped immortalize many actors and actresses in the mind of the public. Who can forget acting talents like Nicole Kidman, Heath Ledger and Russell Crowe—all of which are Australian imports?
Television has had a heavy impact on the way people are now entertained, especially with the inventions of VCRs, DVD players, and now Blu-Ray players. Sitcoms, dramatic series and reality TV shows are some of the most watched forms of entertainment in the home theatre.
The newest form of entertainment to date is of course the Internet. There is no end to the amount of entertainment that can be found online. Social networking such as Face Book and Twitter are extremely popular, as is online gaming. From blogs to chats to information on any subject imaginable, the Internet has truly opened up connections to all types of entertainment.
What about the arts in arts and entertainment? Art such as paintings, sculptors, and even live theatre are all enjoyable past times today. You can read, write, or attend a poetry session. You can tour an art gallery or enjoy a play performed live before your eyes.
We also mustn’t forget books when it comes to arts and entertainment. There are books dating back centuries that still speak to us, from the works of William Shakespeare, Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, Mark Twain, to today’s top commercial authors like J.K Rowling and Stephen King, to Australian favourites like Peter Carey and Geraldine Brooks. Comic books and graphic novels are also especially popular today, with notable works by Australia’s Tom Taylor and John Brosnan.
If you still aren’t entertained, how about something a little more physical? Dancing is a very popular form of entertainment. From square dancing and line dancing, to clubs where any dancing goes, all the way to ballroom dancing and dancing competitions. Sports are also another popular form of entertainment. From cricket to field hockey, netball, rugby league and rugby union, you are sure to find some fun. Pull on your teams colours and cheer them on as they go for victory.
Arts and entertainment are essential to adding enjoyment and fun to your life. Just what entertains you?
